Jymi Calkins was first introduced to tattooing working as a piercer at Mind Altering Tattoos in his early twenties. Although he didn’t initially foresee himself becoming a tattoo artist, he possesses an affinity for drawing that he traces back to childhood. By virtue of spending so much time at the tattoo shop, in his mid-twenties, Jymi began his tattoo apprenticeship. Although he began as a neo-traditional tattoo artist, Jymi’s award-winning tattoo style (and his preference) is geometric and black-work.
"I got into geometric tattoo styles as a way to improve my lines in neo-traditional tattooing. Now, I find blackwork therapeutic," Jymi Calkins said of his work.
Also an accomplished musician, Jymi travels nationwide as a tattoo artist, attending multiple tattoo conventions monthly. He was won 8 competitions in 2018, including TattooAwards.com's Tattoo of the Month competition, and hopes to continue to progress his career as a travelling tattoo artist.
